This opinion by Tim Potts, co-founder of Democracy Rising in Pennsylvania, is right on target. Potts said, “Last week began with a bang. In arguably the most corrupt state government in America, federal prosecutors convicted former state Sen. Vince Fumo, D- Philadelphia, of 137 counts of public corruption involving $3.5 million. Then there was the release of e-mails that implicate House Democratic Whip Bill DeWeese, D-Greene, in the ongoing Bonus Scandal.”

This video news clip by WTAE.TV 4 in Pittsburgh is very revealing concerning state legislators that receive outside income from organizations that also benefit from the committee work they do as an elected official.
Mike Veon D-Beaver County was charged this week. According to Attorney General Tom Corbett, "The grand jury determined that a group controlled by Veon--the Beaver Initiative for Growth was established primarily for the personal and political benefit of Mike Veon "Every dollar received and spent by the Beaver Initiative for Growth was from the taxpayers of Pennsylvania," said Corbett.
One example was a $1 million no-bid contract that Veon awarded to a company, described in the indictment as a major Democratic contributor. A month later, the company hired Veon's brother to a $160,000 a year job. But the indictment says there was no public benefit. Veon was another member of a system that awards power to long-term state legislators. He is just one of many that prove even good people with good intentions can fall into a trap of corrupt behavior when given too much power.
Don't you think it is time to ask people to serve for a few terms than go back to the private sector so they can remember what it is like to make a living in the real world? To respond to this question--click here.
I am not shocked at this video news that the state senate spend $2.3 million in taxpayers money on this trial. That is in addition to all the money being spent on lawyers in the bonusgate scandal.Tell me it is not time for term limits…
